R.I.P Pete Steele
April 28th 2010 15:48
Too bad that my 1st post is sad news. But the news of the loss of Type O' Negative's frontman and bassist, Pete Steel moved me deeply.
Pete passed away on April 14th from heart failure at the age of 48. Petrus T. Ratajczyk (Pete's real name), was born in Brooklyn, New York at 1962.
He used to be in Carnivore, a known 80's thrash metal band (before that he was in Failure) but it was not until the early 90's that he became well known acting as singer and bassist in Type O' Negative. The super group that gave us albums like Bloody Kisses (1993) and October Rust (1996) (personal favorite). Some called their music gothic metal. I prefer to call them global metal because they gave music for all the world to remember.
Pete's lyrics are characterized by tones of sadness, love themes and strange inner feelings. His dark heavy voice helped him to express the above giving chills to the fans and made him special among thousands goth singers.
Many friends of the metal community (and not only) expressed their admiration for Pete - among them Mille Petrozza (Kreator) and Evan Seinfeld (Biohazard).
R.I.P friend.
I'll never forget the quote on October Rust album:
"people mistake lack of talent for genius"
A little song there for the old ones to remember and the young blood to learn:
Really Long Link
