Local bands

Hey everyone,
Today's topic is local bands. I'm sure some of you find the time to go down to venues in your area and support local music. To you I have one thing to say... THANK YOU!
If it weren't for people supporting up and coming local bands, the music scene would get stale and boring.
That said, one thing I'm sick of is going down to see local acts, only to have them mimic exactly what is happening in the mainstream. If you are in one of these bands that tries to sound like Fall Out Boy or Parkway Drive or any of those bands, please do everyone a favor and just stop. See, here's how it works. If you want to try and get famous, you have to be doing stuff AHEAD of the mainstream. Sure, there's a small group of lucky bands that get picked up once something starts to get popular, but do you realize what the odds are of that? So basically, and band forming now that sounds like Fall Out Boy for example, wont get signed, because the market for that sound is already full. Sure, you'll get a group of fans and get gigs in your local area, but it wont go any further.
If you have a sound that is ahead of the mainstream, thats what will get you somewhere. For example, the bands that made if big in the grunge movement were doing grunge BEFORE it became really popular.
But I digress...
If you know of a local band that has a unique sound that you dig, get out to see them as much as you can. If you have a free evening and you feel like doing something, try to find out if there are any local bands playing in your area and get down to check them out. Sure, you might get one of those shitty rip-off bands, but there's the chance that you'll find something you really dig.
Also, if you do find you like one of the bands you see, tell them! Thats what they are in it for! To have people enjoy their shows and their music, so don't be afraid to go up and let them know you enjoyed it! If you didn't enjoy it, then there's no need to say anything. just don't go to another gig of theirs
Anyway, enough of this confusing ramble. Support local music! It's the local innovators that keep the industry changing and fresh!
Viva la Revolution!
As always, comments welcome
